When Pokémon Sun and Moon released on 3DS, the titles brought with them an interesting new concept: Alolan forms. Alolan forms were new takes on classic Pokémon designs, influenced by the region’s climate and setting. This morning, The Pokémon Company officially revealed that Galarian forms will appear in Pokémon Sword and Shield, as well!
So far, only three Galarian forms have been revealed: Weezing, Zigzagoon and Linoone. Weezing is a Poison/Fairy type while Zigzagoon and Linoone are Dark/Normal. Galarian Linoone seems to have a new evolution, in the form of Obstagoon. Morpeko was also introduced; the new Pokémon seems to be this generation’s “new take” on Pikachu, much like Mimikyu was in the last generation. Morpeko’s type changes from Electric to Dark when it leaves “Fully Belly” mode and enters “Hangry” mode!
Finally, new rivals have also been revealed. Bede seems to be a traditional rival while Marnie is involved with the region’s new team of baddies: Team Yell! According to The Pokémon Company, Team Yell are apparently Marnie’s “wild fans.”
