The breadth of content in Mario Kart 8 easily eclipses that of previous entries in the serious, but recent comments by Shinya Takahashi, head of software development at Nintendo, reveal that even more content is coming to the game in the near future.
Nintendo tweeted the following video of Mr. Takahashi discussing some of his favorite Nintendo titles, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Splatoon 2, where he makes some interesting comments:

After noting that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can be played using the Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Motorbike, he says, “There will be further updates for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, so please look forward to it.” What those updates will include is unclear, but hopefully they won’t just relate to Nintendo Labo. Of course, more DLC in the form of new tracks and playable characters would be amazing, but we’ll have to be patient to see what Nintendo has up their sleeve.
