Nintendo and baseball have a long association with one another. Titles like Wii Sports and Super Mario Sluggers have kept Nintendo and baseball fans well-entertained since the days of the original NES. While the company already owns a Major League Baseball team, the Frisco RoughRiders seem poised to become the unofficial AA team of Nintendo.

This summer, the RoughRiders will hold a “Salute to 8-Bit and Arcades Night.” The Texas Rangers-affiliate will host an evening featuring arcade machines throughout the facilities, between-inning contests that will take inspiration from other classic games, and one lucky fan in attendance will win a next-gen console. The part Nintendo fans will undoubtedly enjoy the most, however, are the team’s Game Boy-inspired jerseys. The designers have gone the extra mile on authenticity, including lots of minor details that well-represent the handheld. There’s even a “cartridge” on the back of jersey, as well!

Nintendojo contacted Matt Ratliff, the team’s Senior Director of Marketing and Promotions, for more information on the upcoming event.

During our initial promotional brainstorming sessions, we wanted to come up with a concept that a broad fan base would be attracted to. I think we have nailed that with “Salute to 8-Bit and Arcades Night.” It’s only fitting that this unique theme night is held in Frisco, Texas, home of the National Video Game Museum.

There is such a love and following for retro video games, and we are excited to bring that to our fan base as well as retro video game fans around the nation. From our players wearing iconic Game Boy-inspired jerseys on the field to retro arcade machines throughout our concourse, we want to celebrate the history of video games and bring a little 8-Bit nostalgia to our baseball game.

“Salute to 8-Bit and Arcades Night” will take place at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, Texas on Friday July 8. Tickets can be purchased at the link below. The team’s Game Boy-inspired jerseys will be available at the game and at the team’s online store.
