According to a report by Superdata, Fortnite made more money in 2019 than any other video game, an achievement it also reached in 2018.
Exactly how much did it make, you ask? A staggering $1.8 billion in revenue — though that’s a 25% drop from the $2.4 billion it made in 2018. Superdata attributes the drop to a stabilization of the game’s revenues after it experienced a sudden spike in popularity in 2018.
While Fortnite was the top earner of free-to-play games specifically, it also outperformed premium PC and console games:
Meanwhile, unlike Fortnite, Pokémon GO actually experienced an increase in revenue over 2018, bringing in $1.4 billion. Interestingly, free-to-play games like Pokémon GO and Fortnite accounted for 80% of all digital game revenue in the last 12 months.
