1993 wasn’t a good year for Sonic and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It was the year the Sonic the Hedgehog float met its tragic end due to high winds, injuring two people in its demise. But while the incident has lived on in photos of the crumpled float on the street, footage of the float meeting its end was conspicuously absent — until now.
Video has emerged of the moment when the Sonic float crashed into a light pole, face-first, popped, and came floating back down to earth.
It’s around the 1:38 mark that we see video of the Sonic float coming face-to-face with the light pole, followed by a clip of the float handlers rushing his crumpled remains off the street.
Guess he ran out of rings!
Despite this, the float would later be restored and Sonic would return to the Thanksgiving Day Parade as the lead float.
