With the release of Wii Fit, Nintendo kicked off a brief trend of fitness focused video games as the medium started to become more appealing for people beyond the traditional gamer demographic. While this trend has faded quite a bit since, not every developer has given up on such efforts, and apparently there is still a market.
Nintendo and Imagineer released Fitness Boxing for Switch last year on December 18 and it’s been doing rather well for itself. Since then, the game has sold a total of 300,000 units around the world, taking into account both physical copies as well as downloads. Those numbers will likely increase in the near future as the title has sold very well in Japan, where it will soon be going on sale ahead of the country’s holiday rich Golden Week.
Considering how well Nintendo was able to capitalize on titles like Wii Fit in the past, it’s somewhat surprising that they haven’t created another games-as-exercise title in-house, but at least that means there’s room for other developers to find success as well.
