When it was released last year, Final Fantasy XV was greeted very well by both critics and gamers alike as it brought some much-needed innovation and new ideas to the long running franchise. So far, the game has only been released on PS4 and Xbox One, but Square Enix took Gamescom as an opportunity to announce their plans to expand the title’s availability. While they confirmed a full-fledged PC port and a simplified re-imagining for mobile devices, the producer also dropped a few hints about a Switch version during a livestream.
“We can’t give you any complete, solid details right at the moment, but we very much do want to move out and do as much as we can with the game and the franchise. There’s another certain console out there people may be thinking of. It sounds a little bit like… Twitch,” producer Hajime Tabata explained. “Everyone on the FF XV team loves this specific console that sounds a lot like Twitch, so you may want to think about something like that in the future.”
Assuming that Twitch isn’t planning on launching its own console sometime soon, it seems fair to assume Tabata was talking about Nintendo Switch. Of course, it will be interesting to see how the game takes shape on Switch. FF XV is a technically demanding game, which explains why the recently announced mobile game looks drastically different. As someone who put over 100 hours into the game on PS4, I would much rather see Switch owners get the chance to experience the full game as it was intended.
