One of the more interesting and consumer friendly trends of the last few years has been the breakdown of the virtual walls that have long separated the various devices we game on. Where gamers could once only play with people on their same platforms, now we have a plethora of titles that allow players on Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation to all compete together. Soon, this more cooperative spirit will quite appropriately be making its way to a classic game built entirely on the idea of cooperation.
We’ve known for a while now that the one-time GameCube exclusive Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles would be getting an HD remaster for Switch, PS4, and mobile devices, but only recently have we learned that players on all of these versions will get to play together. Furthermore, cross-save is also an option, so if Switch isn’t portable enough, you can transition to playing on your iOS or Android device when you’re on the go.
This level of flexibility is actually kind of humorous considering how complicated the original game could be. While it could be played with four people using four GameCube controllers, the game also included support for using the GBA as a controller and second screen via a special cable that only a handful of games took advantage of. Thankfully, it looks like Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition will makes things a bit more streamlined when it releases on January 23, 2020.
