In 2000, Eidos Interactive released Fear Effect for the Sony PlayStation. Taking cues from the survival horror genre, the title featured fixed, pre-rendered backgrounds reminiscent of the Resident Evil franchise. The game released to strong reviews, but the franchise has gathered dust since Eidos was purchased by Square Enix.
Clearly, not everyone has forgotten the franchise, however. Square Enix has announced Fear Effect Reinvented, a remake of the PlayStation original, set for release sometime in 2018! Check out the short teaser trailer below!
Developed by Sushee as part of the Square Enix Collective project, Fear Effect Reinvented looks like it will be a strong option for both fans of the original, and newcomers alike. GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Square Enix’s Phil Elliott, who elaborated on the upcoming title.
“We won’t be making a simple remake, we want to stay as close as possible to the original, but important aspects of the game will evolve. Graphics, of course, as you can see in the announcement trailer… we tried to find a very modern, yet respectful artistic direction – and I must say we’re very excited with what we’ve done so far.”
You can catch the rest of the interview in the link below! Square Enix and Sushee are also working on a brand-new title, Fear Effect Sedna, but it is not currently slated to appear on Switch. That could, of course, change based on sales of Reinvented. Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!
