Dragon Quest XI has been available in Japan since July 2017, but fans in the west are still waiting to get their hands on the game. While Switch owners have longer to wait than others, at least it now seems that we will get to hear more about that version at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.

Yuji Horii, the series’ creator, made the the following statement during a Dragon Quest XI concert event today:

I can’t say much about the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI, but its development is going smoothly. I feel like we’ll be able to make all kinds of announcements around Tokyo Game Show… I’m not sure how much more I should say.”

The game’s director, Takeshi Uchikawa, followed this up by saying “I feel like we might be able to announce something soon?” TGS runs this year from September 19 to September 23, so there won’t be long to wait if this does turn out to be the case.

Dragon Quest XI came to Japan last year on both PS4 and Nintendo 3DS. While we now know that the 3DS version won’t be coming to the west at all, the game is coming to PS4 and PC in North America and Europe on September 4. A release date has yet to be announced for the Switch version in any region.
