Don’t Hold Your Breath for Dante in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

We might need to see Devil May Cry on Switch first.

With Joker from Person 5 announced as the first DLC character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, there is wide-ranging speculation around who the other four characters will be.

However, while fans have been asking for Devil May Cry’s Dante to be part of the roster for years now, series director Hidaki Itsuno recently spoke about the character’s chances of appear in the game:

Well, you think about it… I’m pretty sure that they… all the characters in Smash at least have some game on a Nintendo platform, right? Well, that’s the thing. Devil May Cry has never been on a Nintendo platform. So it seems like the first thing to do would be to get Capcom to put Devil May Cry on a Nintendo platform in some way, shape or form – whatever game that might be.”

It’s true that almost all of the fighters have previously appeared on a Nintendo console. While Cloud is an exception to the rule, the Final Fantasy series has ties with Nintendo going back to the NES/Famicom (plus, Final Fantasy VII is coming to the Switch).

Capcom may be willing to break this long-standing tradition and include Dante before a Devil May Cry game makes it to Switch, but as of right now it sounds like a DMC game needs to make it to the platform first before the company would consider bringing him to the Smash Bros.roster.
