Although it had been previously uncovered back in August of 2021 that Donkey Kong and company would be making their way to their own themed section of the Super Nintendo World portion of Universal Studios Japan, there is now an official announcement of the development. Donkey Kong Country is the newest region of Super Nintendo World in Japan, with an expected opening in spring of 2024. You can get your first up close look at the expansion in this video:
Here’s a quote from Shigeru Miyamoto regarding the expansion:
“I am very happy to be able to make the world of Donkey Kong a reality following the world of Mario. I am looking forward to creating a thrilling Donkey Kong experience with the amazing team at Universal. It will take some time until it is completed, but it will be a unique area for not only people who are familiar with Donkey Kong games, but for all guests.”
Along with the attractions that will be within the Donkey Kong Country expansion, there will also be a number of different snacks and merchandise to get a hold of. Here’s a small smattering of what will be available:
