Movie director Tim Miller grabbed the attention of moviegoers with his work on the Deadpool movie released earlier this year. The film shattered expectations, drawing hundreds of millions of dollars more than anyone expected an R-rated superhero movie released in February was capable of. Unfortunately, creative differences on where to take the Deadpool franchise resulted in him not participating in the sequel, but his new project will no doubt grab the attention of gamers.
Miller has announced he will be executive producing a movie based on Sonic the Hedgehog. The film will be a mix of CGI animation and live action footage and is being produced at Blur Studio with director Jim Fowler at the helm. This will be Fowler’s first shot at directing a feature length film.
Not much else has been said regarding the project yet, besides that it will be a family friendly film and is scheduled to be released in 2018. All things considered, most people will see this project as having an uphill battle; films based on video games rarely rise even above mediocrity and the Sonic franchise has struggled in recent years to recapture its former glory. That being said, we’ll have to wait and see how the project comes together before passing judgement.
