Pokkén Tournament was officially released in arcades in Japan just under a week ago now, but there is still nothing set in stone regarding the title making its way to Western audiences. There has been the odd whisper here and there, but nothing you could call definite– until now.
Restaurant chain, and soon to be Pokkén Tournament legends, Dave & Buster’s has thankfully made plans to host location tests for the new Pokémon-based brawler. Senior VP Kevin Bachus stated the following on a recent Reddit AMA:
“Yes. We will be testing Pokkén. Candidly both NAMCO and I are more optimistic about that title and our typical guests than Tekken.”
No further information was given regarding the specifics, but it’s safe to say that with the weight of D&B behind Pokkén’s Western release, this is surely a given.
However, spare a thought for myself and the rest of my British and European chums. Being a UK resident and unfamiliar with the D&B brand, I quickly researched who they were. A restaurant and entertainment venue in 73 locations, each of them offering a full-service restaurant and a video arcade to boot. Great, sign me up!
Unfortunately, none of the 73 locations are outside the US or Canada, and the D&B concept never has, and probably never will be, licensed internationally. Dammit!
