HannMade Studios seems to have a thing for scaring children with the things that go “bump” in the night. The developers, whose previous titles include The Child’s Sight and Bed Time Blues, have another game coming to Switch soon, Dark Veer, and it seems to be cut from the same cloth.
Like those previous games, you play the role of a child who has to survive the night against the sort of horrors one might expect to haunt a kid’s imagination, especially when they’re home alone. In this new game, your father is working the graveyard shift at work and he seems to be unconvinced that the monsters lurking in the dark are real, so it’s up to you to see your young protagonist through the night from a first-person perspective as you roam about the bedroom. Interestingly, judging from the trailer, the game seems to go for a low-fi aesthetic, giving it a pixelated look as though it were an original PlayStation game.
Dark Veer will be available for download on the Switch eShop October 24, so it might be a decent option for those looking for something a little spooky for Halloween.
