Nintendo’s official charging dock for the switch is a hefty $90, which has made Nyko’s Portable Switch Charging Kit an appealing alternative at $50. Unfortunately some users are paying the price for paying less, as reports are coming in that the device has killed the charging port of some consumers’ Switches.
Many Reddit users took to the Switch Reddit to voice their warnings and concerns, stating that Nyko’s dock destroyed the USB-C port on their Switches, rendering them unable to charge. In response, Nyko hopped onto Reddit and addressed the issue in an AMA:
“We always run our products through rigorous testing procedures. Any of our products that have electrical components also carry all required certifications like CE, UL, ROHS, etc., to ensure that they meet quality and safety standards.
We are only aware of one instance that came through our customer support team. We are investigating it now and taking care of that customer.”
In addition, Nyko is willing to replace any consoles that are or have been damaged by their product.
