The video game industry lost a force recently. Composer Kenichi Okuma has passed away from esophageal cancer at the age of 56. The news was shared via Twitter on Okuma’s account. Masahiro Sakurai, director of the Smash Bros. series, responded with his condolences:

Okuma passed on July 22. We here at Nintendojo offer our heartfelt condolences to Okuma’s family and friends. He leaves behind a body of work that many fans have been and will continue to spend time whistling to themselves and tapping their toes to.
