With the exception of scuttling its relationship with Hideo Kojima and unveiling the (as of right now, at least) questionable looking Metal Gear Survive, Konami is seeing quite a resurgence these days. Along with two new Bomberman games, Konami is reviving another one of its classic video game franchises, but as a cartoon and not a game! The series in question is Castlevania, which will be coming to Netflix later this year.
Video game adaptations tend not to be handled well (Assassin’s Creed, I’m looking at you!), but this new take on the vampire-slaying series has some potential. First off, legendary comic book writer Warren Ellis, known for amazing stints on books like Planetary, Moon Knight, and more, is going to be scribing Castlevania. The show will be targeting a mature tone, with the goal being to reach for an “R” rating when it comes to gore and violence.
The series will be following the exploits of the final living member of the Belmont clan in his quest to kill Dracula. There’s no official word on when Castlevania will be dropping, but when it does, expect four thirty minutes-long episodes to binge watch.

Some genres do better as animated, and tv series tend to have better luck than movies. Games tend to do better in both these areas (so does DC Universe, for that matter). I have high hopes for this one.
Warren Ellis? SOLD.
