While Nintendo’s Amiibo line has proven to be far more enduring than most toys-to-life lines, third parties have been a bit more hesitant to throw their support behind the figures. Capcom has embraced the format more than most through both the Monster Hunter Stories and Super Smash Bros. waves, but the company almost released even more, before pulling the plug.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, Capcom’s Ryota Niitsuma revealed that the publisher had considered a pair of Amiibo to be released alongside the recent port of Resident Evil Revelations on Switch. Interestingly enough, Hunk and Lady Hunk would have been released, rather than more prominent characters like Jill Valentine or Chris Redfield. Capcom would not reveal the specific reasons the figures were canceled, but 3D models were created for both. Resident Evil Revelations director Koushi Nakanishi did state a desire to potentially revisit them at some point, so perhaps not all hope is lost! Interested fans can, of course, make their voices heard in a number of ways, including social media. It still hasn’t gotten Capcom to give us a new Mega Man game, but maybe fan demand can make these figures a reality!
Would you be interested in Resident Evil Amiibo? Would Hunk and Lady Hunk suffice, or would you prefer classic characters like Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield? Let us know in the comments below!
