It seems like no major AAA release these days is complete without giving the players the option to purchase a season pass for upcoming DLC, and now it looks like the latest Zelda will be joining that bandwagon. Those looking to spend more time with Breath of the Wild will have two sets of content to keep their adventure going.
Purchasing the game’s “expansion” pass will instantly unlock a few goodies before any of the DLC is released. Players will find three extra treasure chests early in the game; two containing various useful goods, and the third a shirt for Link featuring the Switch logo. The real meat of the season pass will start sometime in the summer with the first major content release, which includes a new Cave of Trials, a hard mode for the game, and a “new feature for the in-game map.” The second batch will launch sometime during the holidays this year and it will feature additional challenges, a brand new dungeon, and even new story content.
The season pass will be available for purchase alongside the game when it, and the Switch, launch on March 3. The new content will cost $20.00 and will not be available separately.

Regardless of this being good or bad news, I feel it was poor timing.
At this point in February, I figured we be knee-deep in directs and reveals about all kinds of things: Game announcements, 3rd-Party surprises, information on the online service, information on virtual console (including how/if they’ll transfer from Wii U), etc.
Instead we know very little of the above mentioned items as the launch date approaches.
What’s worse: I was/am so looking forward to Breath of the Wild, but now this news just takes away (slightly) from my excitement. It just confirms that the cartridge I get on March 3rd won’t contain the “complete” game.
