After longtime Castlevania director Koji Igarashi left Konami, he launched a crowd funding campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, a spiritual successor to the Gothic action franchise. The game was planned for every major console at the time, including Wii U. However, now that Switch is out, Igarashi and developer Inti Creates have announced a change in plans.
According to a statement from Igarashi, the team has ceased development on the Wii U version of the game and moved development over to Switch. Because of this change, all backers are now welcome to change their console of choice. Those who previously selected Wii U will have their choice automatically changed over to Switch, while those who selected any other platform will have to take action if they want to change it over. This can be done by clicking the link originally sent for selecting your preferred platform. Refunds are also available for those who were only looking to play the game on Wii U. If any additional assistance is needed regarding these matters, backers can email their questions to orders@fangamer.com.

In his comment about this change, Igarashi stated that with the Wii U version it is now “difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker.” These seems to suggest that Nintendo was quite adamant about getting the game ready for Switch, which is good news for the nascent system’s library of upcoming games but might not excite those who had their hearts set on the Wii U version. Thankfully, the game still isn’t scheduled for release until 2018, so there’s plenty of time to pick up a Switch for those currently without.
