During this year’s BitSummit festival in Japan, Keiji Inafune, the creative mastermind behind the Mega Man series, announced a new sidescrolling action game for 3DS titled Azure Striker Gunvolt.
Developed by Inti Creates (the studio with which Inafune is collaborating on his anticipated crowdfunded game, Mighty No. 9), Azure Striker Gunvolt is a frenetic platformer much in the vein of Mega Man. Players take control of Gunvolt, a young freedom fighter gifted with psychic abilities. Gunvolt can use his powers to fire lightning bolts at his adversaries, a skill which he’ll need to harness to battle other psychics and topple the repressive Sumeragi Group.
Along with the announcement, Inti Creates has released a trailer for the game, which you can watch below.
Azure Striker Gunvolt will be released in Japan this summer through the 3DS eShop. A worldwide release has yet to be announced.
