After a long legal battle, Limited Run Games has confirmed that it’s still bringing physical copies of Axiom Verge to Wii U on March 29.
The company made the following statement on Twitter: “We won’t come anywhere close to breaking even on this project after the money our former partner took from us – but we hope Wii U fans will appreciate the chance to own one of the best indie games physically for the platform!” For reference, it’s apparently taken $120,000 to make the physical copies a reality.
According to Limited Run Games, they paid BadLand Games $78,000 for 6000 copies of Axiom Verge for a planned November 2017 release. However, BadLand then delayed the release to January 2018, and it was delayed yet again due to Nintendo’s verification checks to determine what rating it should get. Josh Fairhurst, CEO of Limited Run Games, apparently emailed BadLand repeatedly requesting either a refund or $78,000 worth of copies for other platforms. While Luis Quintans, CEO of BadLand Games, said they would produce the copies Limited Run paid for, it never happened. After Fairhurst filed a lawsuit in October 2018, Quintans said that the company had closed and a default judgement was awarded to Limited Run Games in December 2018.
So, the physical edition of Axiom Verge will include the game disc, a 16-track soundtrack CD, 32-page art book, and a double-sided poster with art from the game on one side and a full map on the other. The price has yet to be announced but fans can queue up to buy it on March 29 at 7:00 am PDT/10:00 am EDT on their official site.
Despite the long wait, will you be buying the physical version of Axiom Verge on Wii U? What are you thoughts on the lawsuit between Limited Run Games and BadLand Games? Let us know in the comments.
