Chicken Wiggle was a 2D puzzle–platformer by developer Jools Watsham’s studio Atooi that dropped back in 2017. It was a fun adventure, for sure, and as Atooi’s first game it offered a lot of hope for the fledgling company. Then word came about a year later that the title would be making the leap to Nintendo Switch as Chicken Wiggle Workshop, with an emphasis on level creation. After a successful Kickstarter fundraiser, fans have been waiting patiently ever since for the game to reach completion.
Well… they’re still going to be waiting a little longer, but the good news is that Atooi has come forward with some interesting new information about Chicken Wiggle Workshop:
Chicken Wiggle Workshop is now called HATCH TALES!

Yes, it would seem that Hatch Tales is the new name for Chicken Wiggle Workshop! Watsham penned a very in-depth piece on the Atooi website that elaborates on the transition, which you can read in full here. We’ve parsed out some bits from the statement which we’ve included, below:
“I think it matches the game perfectly and helps put the emphasis on the adventure aspect of the game, which is really at the heart of the game. The level builder is a huge component of the game, for sure, but I feel it will be appreciated by players more when it is discovered as a delicious bonus instead of being the main feature of the game.
For the purists and detail-hounds out there, yes, the main character’s name is now Hatch, which means Hatch Tales is basically saying tales about Hatch. 😊 However, it can also be seen from a different perspective, which is rather exciting, when you consider the level creator. Each level the player creates could be considered a little tale, which they hatched. Players can hatch tales, too!”
It appears that Atooi has done something of a reversal here, as the focus on Workshop previously seemed very much about the game’s creation capabilities. Hatch Tales is apparently going in the opposite direction and refocusing on the campaign (which Watsham teases might now be expanded). This move is possibly a reaction to the release of Super Mario Maker 2, which is itself the premier level-creation software on the platform, but that’s only speculation.
There’s still no release date for Hatch Tales, but it’s great to know that Atooi is working diligently on it. Are you excited to give Hatch Tales a play? Tell us in the comments and on social media!
