Well this is a pleasant surprise for retro enthusiasts. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration is getting another update. This one is even more significant than the previous holiday update which brought 12 new games to the collection. This Expanded Edition of Atari 50 is launching on October 25, 2024 and will bring with it 39 additional games (bringing the total to 154) and two more historical timelines. Let’s break them down a bit:

  • The Wider World of Atari Timeline: 19 games will be included in this timeline, as well as eight more video segments. Here fans will get a look at things like the creation of the Atari logo, how Atari has impacted game developers across the decades, and much more.
  • The First Console War Timeline: In this timeline there will be 20 playable games and six more video segments to enjoy. Here the focus will be on the battle between Atari and Mattel’s Intellivision (which Atari ironically just purchased back in May).

This content will be offered to those who already own Atari 50 as DLC. What’s more, this updated version of Atari 50 will also be getting a corresponding physical edition. There’s the standard edition and the Expanded Steelbook Edition. Here’s a look at everything that it comes with:

The contents include:

  • Atari 2600 art cards
  • Miniature arcade marquee signs
  • An Al Alcorn Replica Syzygy Co. business card
  • A Steelbook case

The Standard Edition will retail for $39.99 while the Steelbook Edition has an MSRP of $49.99. In terms of what the extra games will be is up in the air, but we’ll be sure to update you as we learn more. Atari 50 is a really wonderful resource for those who want to learn about the origins of the industry.
