Last year was good for classic 3D platformers. While Switch owners were reveling in Super Mario Odyssey, other systems were able to enjoy A Hat in Time, a platformer from independent developer Gears for Breakfast. While Mario Odyssey might have dominated the spotlight with its constant stream of accolades, A Hat in Time still managed to garner a fair share of glowing reviews and, more importantly, fans. Soon, Switch owners will get the chance to take a peek at the popular platformer, too.
A Hat in Time features a young, hat-making, time-traveling girl in search for fuel for her time machine. Naturally, this means she has to visit a variety of colorful worlds filled with quirky characters and a diverse array of platforming challenges in order to collect large amounts of an assortment of items. In other words, it stays true to the classic 3D platformer foundation established by the likes of Mario 64, and Banjo-Kazooie. The hats add a twist, of course, which grant Hat Kid a variety of additional powers.
At the same time the game was announced for Switch, the developers also revealed DLC called Seal the Deal, however it has not been specified when, or if, it might be coming to Switch. As for the game itself, it currently has a release date of “Coming Soon” so be sure to stay tuned for more information.
