When Yooka-Laylee first showed up on Kickstarter, fans of Rare’s Nintendo 64 era platformers collectively rejoiced. After all, the title promised an adventure inspired by games like Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. Yooka-Laylee has been available on Switch for nearly a year now, but the game will soon get an update bringing the game even more in line with those platformers of old: a 64-bit mode!
Long teased by developer Playtonic, the new mode will be one of the game’s many “Tonic” options: modifiers that can be toggled on or off by meeting up with the character Vendi. These modifications to the game can make things easier, harder or just plain sillier! Playtonic has not given a release date for the update, but they did release a brand-new trailer showcasing the downgraded graphical approach.
The 64-bit Tonic will be a free update for the game.
