One of the more interesting gaming trends to emerge recently has been the releasing of games on old, long dead systems in a strange mix of new content and nostalgia. The most recent example is 40 Winks, a 3D platformer originally planned for Nintendo 64 but only released on PlayStation due to its publisher’s economic woes.
Piko Interactive, a company with a history of reviving old games on equally old consoles, has taken it upon themselves to let the N64 version of 40 Winks finally see the light of day. A Kickstarter was launched for the project and, at this point, more than $20,000 has been raised, which means real cartridges will be produced. If the total hits $60,000, they will also release a 40 Winks themed controller.
The campaign still has 28 days to go at the time of this writing, so there is still plenty of time to throw your money in to give yourself a reason to dust off your Nintendo 64. Depending on how much you contribute, you can get yourself just the game, or a special edition which, in addition to other goodies, includes a POG. For those unfamiliar with POGs, please consult the nearest person who remembers the early to mid ’90s.
