Many have argued that Nintendo systems have made great supplemental systems; strong companion piece to other gaming hardware. Considering the quality of Nintendo exclusive experiences in addition to how their systems have had inconsistent third party support, this position makes quite a bit of sense. Now, some new statistics have put this concept into perspective.
An NPD analyst, Mat Piscatella, revealed some data from their studies on the industry about console ownership. Apparently, more than 40 percent of US Switch owners also own a PS4, Xbox One, or both. Given this information, he also speculates that the impending launch of next generation hardware, likely later this year, won’t have a significant effect on the Switch’s continued success.
While this information definitely lends credence to the idea that Switch is an additional system for many gamers, it also suggests that more than half of the system’s owners have it as their sole gaming console.
