Twenty years ago the Pokémon phenomenon exploded onto the scene with trading cards, video games, and an anime. It’s a fad, they said. Not going to last forever, they said.
Twenty years later, Pokémon has proved itself to be anything but a fad and the anime is set to air its 1000th episode next week. The anime’s first episode aired in Japan on April 1 1997.
On November 9, episode 1000, titled, “Lilie and Silvady, the Resurrected Memory!” will feature Silvady’s TV anime debut.
November is a busy month for the franchise. In addition to the anime’s milestone, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! debuted in U.S. theaters over the weekend and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch globally on November 17.
A big congratulations to the Pokémon series for building an incredible world through its games, animes, and movies over twenty years. Here’s to seeing what Pokémon will have in store in the next twenty!
