DOOM fans have had many things to be happy about during this 25th anniversary of DOOM II, including the launch of DOOM Eternal on Nintendo Switch, but the folks at Bethesda, id Software, and designer Christopher “MXDash” Golden have a surprise that will get many people grinning. DOOM Zero is an all-new entry in the series that is being offered as a free add-on to DOOM and DOOM II. Built to mimic the exact look and specifications of the original DOOM, DOOM Zero offers a bunch of new content in this original campaign.

Here’s what Bethesda has to say about the project:
Don’t let the name fool you: This ain’t no ‘lite,’ low-calorie version of DOOM. Made in celebration of DOOM II’s 25th anniversary, DOOM Zero contains a whopping 32 levels filled with new enemies, new bosses, new sounds, new music and new sprites.
Despite being faithful to ‘vanilla’ DOOM’s classic gameplay, DOOM Zero still brings its own original ideas to the old-school formula, from branching paths to challenges that’ll get even seasoned Slayers putting on their thinking caps.
You can give it a look here:
To get the add-on for your copies of DOOM and DOOM II, simply make sure that both both games have received the latest software update (initiated from the Switch dashboard). Then, head into either game and there will be an option to download DOOM Zero from the title screen.
