Welcome to another installment of Nintendojo Jukebox! It’s been a while since we’ve done one of these, so let’s break down the basics: we find great pieces of video game music for your auditory pleasure. Sometimes, it’s just tracks from various games, other times the selections might have some historical significance or be part of a unique theme. For this edition, we’re looking at some of the most memorable logo fanfare music of the 16-bit era! This is the music that would accompany the developer’s name appearing on-screen when a game is booted up.

First up is the most ubiquitous logo jingle to ever grace a Super Nintendo— the Capcom logo fanfare!

There are so many Super Nintendo games that featured this piece of music. Mickey’s Magical Quest, Mega Man X, War of the Gems, Aladdin… the list goes on. There are other publishers that made a lot of games for SNES, but Capcom is definitely one of the most prolific, and this tune was heard by countless players at the time.

Next is another logo jingle that was heard many a time— the Konami logo fanfare!

This particular piece of music could be heard at the launch of quite a few excellent Konami games on SNES, including Turtles in Time, Tournament Fighters, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, Super Castlevania IV, and more. Konami has become a shell of its former self in terms of the volume of games that it puts out, but back during this time period, the developer was a powerhouse!

This next song wasn’t used hardly at all, but it made an impact, nonetheless— the Rareware logo fanfare!

Booting up Donkey Kong Country for the first time was in and of itself a treat. The Rareware (Re: Rare) logo appears and renders itself with this epic piece of music playing in the background. It was the perfect start to a game that would stun countless people the world over.

Let’s end with a logo jingle that isn’t from Super Nintendo, but is arguably intrinsically tied to it. That’s right, the Sega logo fanfare is up next!

For many a Nintendo and Sega fan, this simple intro sparked the beginning of a legendary console war between SNES and Sega Genesis (Mega Drive for our Euro brethren). Short and sweet, it speaks to the very “in your face” attitude that Sega had during that time. Interestingly, Nintendo has never had its own persistent logo jingle— one can’t help but wonder what it would sound like, if Nintendo had ever opted to create one.

That’s it for this time. Any jingles we should have included? Share with us in the comments and on social media!
