So, this week’s entry will be extra short.
My sister and her fiancé bought a house, so I’m helping prep everything for painting. As we work, I’ve set up a boom box with an aux cord and we’re listening to a bunch of video game music. It’s an interesting experience because the house she’s moving into isn’t all that different from our parents’. 17 years ago, they moved into the home they’re in now, and here we are full circle in Angela’s house doing the exact same prep work we had to do back then.
I was going into my Senior year of high school, she was still in middle school. Now, we’re both in our 30s and that period of time feels like a lifetime ago.
As much as things inevitably always change, some things are constant, like our love of video games. I have the War of the Gems soundtrack playing as I put Frog Tape around the window frames. I’m a bit of a painting tape guru, but I digress. Anyway, I’m thinking how, in another 17 years, this music will make me think of tonight and all the work we’re doing to get the house ready to be moved into.
Those are the sorts of memories that I love most about video games. The random tangential stuff happening while you play. Almost 30 years ago, I remember playing Super Mario World while Angela took her first steps in our grandma’s dining room. Now, she has her own dining room. Sometimes life can be pretty cool.
Back to work. Real post next week, promise.
