The Sonic the Hedgehog movie has had a tumultuous time trying to get onto the silver screen. Following the reveal of the film’s design for the titular anthropomorphic hedgehog himself, fans were in an uproar. Such an uproar, in fact, that the movie’s director took to Twitter to let everyone know that their displeasure with Sonic’s look was not only being duly noted, but that massive changes would be made in order to appease as much of the fanbase as possible. The film was even delayed to Valentine’s Day 2020, as a result!

So, after all that effort to get movie Sonic out of everyone’s collective faces, it only makes sense that a Halloween costume based on this design would get made… right? Sigh. Yes, this is a thing. A thing that you can own! Look and cringe:

Now, never let it be said that Nintendojo isn’t fair. Let’s be honest: what else is a kid’s Sonic costume going to look like? It’s not like children have actual noodle legs and arms to make being Sonic on Halloween 100 percent authentic or anything. Admittedly, this costume does still have the oddball fur, bland shoes, and all-blue aesthetic that (hopefully) will be addressed in the as-yet-to-be-seen redesign, so… well, we give up. This is bad. And those who wear it should be forbidden to get candy.

You can find the suit at a number of retailers, including Walmart and Party City. For the rest of us, we’ll be using that cold, hard cash to buy a blindfold to shut the costume out with.
