Firewatch, the darling debut by indie developer Campo Santos, is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer. The first-person adventure game has been heralded by many for its unique gameplay and narrative, garnering much success on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

According to the folks at Campo Santos in their blog, the version of Firewatch that will be gracing Nintendo’s console is being reworked from “the studs” up, meaning every bit of the game is getting optimized for Switch’s lower horsepower. While that might sound like fans are getting a stripped down version of Firewatch, the exact opposite seems to be the case.

“The optimizations we’re doing to Firewatch aren’t just for Switch. They’re for Firewatch’s future as well,” Campo Santos states. “We expect to bring the low-level optimizations and tech clean-up we’re doing for the Switch to all platforms eventually. That means if things go to plan, we’ll see performance improvements on PlayStation 4 (and 4 Pro), Xbox One (and One X), Mac and PC.” If that’s anything to go off of, it sounds like Switch is going to be getting the definitive version of Firewatch to date!

Campo Santos haven’t given a release date yet for the Switch port, but has said that it will be with us “soon”.
