The extremely popular Attack on Titan has already seen several video game adaptations in the form of action games attempting to capture the high-flying, acrobatic battles against the titular people-eating giants the series is famous for. Publisher Koei Tecmo holds the video game rights to the franchise and has announced its next release will actually be a visual novel game for 3DS.
Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death is being developed by Ruby Party, a developer experienced in the genre, in cooperation with the art staff from the anime. The game will present an original story with players assuming the role of a brand new character whose gender can be chosen by the player. The story will feature characters from the anime, who will in part be determined by your gender of choice, as they try to escape a castle under siege by titans.
The project is still relatively early in development– the developer estimates about 30 percent– so nothing has been said regarding a release date. Of course, given the relatively niche nature of the genre, there is the question about whether or not it will be localized in non-Japanese markets, but Attack on Titan has found plenty of success around the world and visual novels have slowly but surely been growing in popularity, so there is definitely a chance Attack on Titan: Escape from Certain Death will see the outside world.
