Nintendo Switch Online is removing its first game. Super Soccer, which was developed by Human Entertainment but is owned by Spike Chunsoft, is going to be sunsetted from the service come March 28, 2025. Nintendo hasn’t given a reason for the removal, but speculation is that since this is a title not made and published by Nintendo, it likely is a factor in the game’s removal.

While Super Soccer is likely not one of the most popular games on the service, it is noetheless alarming some fans as they wonder which game or games might be next, including beloved favorites like Super Mario 64, or games from competitors like Microsoft, which includes the Banjo-Kazooie series on Nintendo 64. It has sparked further debate around game preservation, as well as renewed calls for the ability for fans to be able to outright purchase these titles as opposed to the rental model that has become so popular with media companies over the past decade.
