The rumor was that Sonic Origins, the serviceable compilation of retro Sonic games, was going to be getting an upgrade. Well, rumor has transformed into fact, with word from SEGA that Sonic Origins Plus will be coming to Nintendo Switch on June 23. The game brings a couple of big changes and 12 additional games—let’s give the announcement trailer a watch and then launch into the deets:
Amy Rose is the biggest change coming to the initial quartet of games that were included in Sonic Origins. She’ll be playable in all four games, a first for these titles (she’s also in her classic outfit). Knuckles, additionally, will be coming to Sonic CD. Rounding out the “Plus” side of this package is the inclusion of 12 of Sonic’s Game Gear games. Here’s the list:
- Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
- Sonic Blast
- Sonic Chaos
- Sonic Drift
- Sonic Drift 2
- Sonic Labyrinth
- Sonic Spinball
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2
- Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
- Tails Adventure
- Tails’ Skypatrol
This is a pleasant surprise, especially as the 3DS eShop is about to be closed down forever (which is where many of these games could be downloaded). Note that fans wanting a cartridge of the game will finally get their wish (for $39.99 both physically and digitally), but those who own the digital version will be able to upgrade via purchase of the Expansion Pack for $9.99.
