Nintendo at PAX for the First Time This Year
The Penny Arcade Expo has really stepped up as one of the top shows for video games in recent years. This year, it’s even bigger. For the first time, Nintendo will be invading PAX in Seattle, Washington. From September 3-5, you will have a chance to play marquee 2010 Wii titles such as Donkey Kong Country Returns, NBA Jam, and Kirby’s Epic Yarn. Metroid: Other M will also be showcased, but it launches just a few days before PAX starts, so it’s no big deal.
Nintendo also hopes people will bring their Nintendo DS and a copy of Dragon Quest IX along with them. Players will be able to use the “tag mode” feature to acquire a special downloadable map called “Orgodemir.” Nintendo also encourages to get social by trading or questing with one another, for there will be a special Dragon Quest lounge in the North Lobby on level four of the PAX venue.
Finally, Nintendo is apparently debuting a new WiiWare game at PAX called Fluidity. A short description of the game, according to the press release.
Nintendo’s Fluidity combines an amazing physics engine that realistically models flowing water with innovative puzzle game play. Using the three forms of water – liquid, ice and cloud – players will solve challenging puzzles across multiple chapters of an illustrated magical book called Aquaticus. The game offers detailed tutorials that introduce basic game mechanics, but the complexity quickly ramps up as special powers are acquired and enemies are introduced, testing players’ reflexes and ingenuity.
This looks to be an in-house developed game from Nintendo. Could it be Shigeru Miyamoto’s “new IP” he was talking about a few months ago?
