Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You has captured more interest than perhaps any other Pokémon film since the 1999 release of Pokémon: The First Movie. As such, The Pokémon Company has announced that I Choose You will be the first Pokémon film to see an international theatrical release in fourteen years!
The limited release comes courtesy of Fathom Events, with screenings occurring November 5 and 6 in select markets. Showtimes and promotions have not yet been announced, though they are expected in the near future. The film’s cast has not yet been announced either, though Veronica Taylor, the actress that first voiced Ash Ketchum, has expressed an interest in reprising her role for the film.
While Pokéfans have shown a lot of excitement for I Choose You, the replacement of Misty and Brock in the film’s storyline hasn’t sat particularly well with everyone. The film introduces two new companions for Ash, who will go by Verity and Sorrel in North America.
As an older fan, I’m a bit disappointed that Misty and Brock make little more than a cameo in the film. Still, I was fourteen when Pokémon: The First Movie released in theaters. With a child of my own now, I very much look forward to being able to experience this Pokémon film in theaters with her! Hopefully further information will be announced soon! Stay tuned to Nintendojo for more as it develops!
