We’re about a week away from Halloween, and what better way to get into the spirit than with some spooky gaming? This week’s batch of eShop releases features plenty of titles that fit that bill. The most notable is Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, the first Wii U installment of the survival horror series. Even among the many horror franchises in gaming, Fatal Frame is renowned for its creepy atmosphere, and Maiden of Black Water certainly looks like it maintains that tradition, taking players on a dark journey to uncover the secret behind a string of deaths in a haunting forest. While the game is only available as a downloadable title in North America, Wii U owners do have a chance to test out its first two chapters completely free of charge before they decide to purchase the full title.
Beyond that, horror fans also have the unsettling Slender: The Arrival to look forward to this week. If you prefer to embark on a lighter adventure this Halloween, however, you can snag the Game Boy Advance port of Super Ghouls n’ Ghosts through the Wii U Virtual Console, while Double Fine’s charming trick-or-treating RPG Costume Quest 2 goes on sale just in time for Halloween next week on October 26.
While Wii U has received the lion’s share of releases this week, 3DS has a few highlights as well. The handheld’s biggest title is undoubtedly The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, the first new Zelda multiplayer adventure since GameCube’s Four Swords Adventures. 3DS owners can also download a free demo of Yo-Kai Watch, the spirit-taming juggernaut from Level-5 that’s taken Japan by storm. All in all, it looks like another solid week for Nintendo fans.

Slender looks terrifying and might be strange enough to get me to buy it. I’ll wait on a few reviews first. Fatal Frame might have my eye but I’m still not sure how free to play works on Nintendo platforms yet.
Those two games do look interesting. I already downloaded the Fatal Frame one to try it out, took over three hours. I’ll wait for reviews too on both.
What I really want to know is when Mutant Mudds super challenge is coming out. Was supposed to be out in June, yet still nothing yet.
That Slender trailer is amazing. Totally snagging that and Fatal Frame after I clear out a couple of games I’m currently playing.
