If there has been one major complaint about Switch from the start, it’s the system’s battery life. While the upcoming Switch Lite model addresses this issue, fans that want to split their time between handheld and docked mode seemed out of luck. That is, until now. Nintendo announced a new model for the Switch this morning, with the only real change being to the system’s battery life.
The current Switch model has a battery life that lasts between 2.5 and 6.5 hours. The latest version of the hardware will last between 4.5 and 9 hours. For comparison’s sake, Switch Lite’s battery life will last between 3 and 7 hours. The model can be identified by its slightly altered box art, as well as its updated serial number, which is HAC-001(-01). The previous model uses the serial number HAC-001. The updated version is expected to arrive in August.
Since the system will utilize Joy-Con controllers (unlike Switch Lite), new Switch owners might want to pick up an extra pair, and Nintendo has fans set with two new color sets. One set will contain Blue and Neon Yellow Joy-Cons, while the other will feature Neon Purple alongside Neon Orange. The new Joy-Con sets will arrive October 4.
