Earlier this week, a leak sprang regarding the GameCube library for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Eagle-eyed fans spotted a Walmart listing that showed off images of games for the service, including a couple that have been neither teased nor announced: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2. The Internet was alight after that, with fans taking to social media to debate when or if these games would actually be coming to the service.

Now, Nintendo has decided to comment on the speculation. That might seem surprising, but the reason seems to be that the image in question came from none other than Nintendo itself. In a statement to IGN, Nintendo said the following:

We recently provided a retailer with an image of Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics titles that incorrectly included games that are not planned for release at this time. The image has been removed, and we apologize for any confusion.

That might sound like a downer, hearing that Nintendo won’t be bringing either game to Switch 2 anytime soon, but consider this: Pikmin 2 is already available on Switch and Switch 2 via the Pikmin 1+2 game. More tantalizing, however, is the persistent rumor that Metroid Prime 2 is getting a remake not unlike Metroid Prime Remaster, which dropped last year.

Are we just looking for a silver lining here? Let us know what you think in the comments!
