Another month passes, and more sales figures come out. July’s sales figures are now in, both from Nintendo and the NPD. The Nintendo 3DS is continuing its strong sales, on both hardware and software– was there ever any doubt?

Yes, the Nintendo 3DS is the best-selling video game platform going on its third month in a row. According to Nintendo, 3DS hardware sales are up 14% and software sales are up 45% from this time last year. A handful of 3DS games also charted among the top-selling games in the North America: Animal Crossing: New Leaf is sitting at number 5. Also, if you don’t account for multi-platform sales being tallied, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and Shin Megami Tensei IV(!) would have made the top ten.

I also have some more juicy numbers from July for you all, straight from Nintendo. Keep in mind that all these sales numbers are just for North America.

  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold more than 150,000 combined physical and digital units in its second month on the market, bringing its lifetime total to more than 660,000 combined units.
  • The lifetime total for Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon for Nintendo 3DS surpassed 820,000 combined physical and digital units.
  • New Super Mario Bros. U for Wii U surpassed 830,000 lifetime sales of combined physical and digital units.
  • EarthBound launched July 18 for the Virtual Console service on the Nintendo eShop for Wii U and is off to a great start. Only two eShop titles, New Super Luigi U and Pikmin 3, generated more consumer spend in the same time period since launch.

It’s a bit funny and sad that New Super Mario Bros. U was thrown into there as well. More power to it, I suppose. But hey, EarthBound! It’s doing well!
