The SNES was a recurring theme in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation; not only did Nintendo unveil a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, not to mention the long-awaited Virtual Console debut of the lost SNES classic EarthBound, the company also announced a brand new installment of Yoshi’s Island for 3DS.
Like the previous two Yoshi’s Island games, Yoshi’s Island 3DS will follow Baby Mario and Yoshi as they travel through a series of newly rendered side-scrolling levels, and will feature the same familiar egg-throwing, flutter-jumping gameplay as its predecessors. The title is also said to feature a host of new actions made possible by the 3DS hardware, but Nintendo did not elaborate on what these actions were.
A release date for the game has yet to be announced, but Nintendo promises to reveal more details on the title in the near future.
