The Pokémon TCG continues to march along as one of the most successful card games to have ever been released. There’s no sign of the momentum slowing, either, as The Pokémon Company prepares for the latest expansion: Scarlet & Violet—151. This new set of cards will, as the name suggests, highlight the first 151 Pocket Monsters. If that sounds a bit too much like the Evolutions expansion from back in 2016, take heart, as this set will be different. First, here’s the synopsis of what these cards will bring to the table:

Team up with the original first partner Pokémon—Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle—as a new day dawns in Kanto. This new day ushers in opportunities to reunite with old friends, make new partners, and capture every last one of the original 151. Discover the extraordinary Venusaur ex, Charizard ex, and Blastoise ex in special cards with captivating illustrations, and explore the cities and countryside of a reinvigorated land—you might even find the elusive Mew ex in your travels. New adventures will unfold and new horizons will be revealed in the Scarlet & Violet—151 expansion!

Here are the details on the cards themselves:

  • Over 160 cards
  • 12 new Pokémon ex
  • All 151 Pokémon originally discovered in the Kanto region—in Pokédex order
  • More than 10 Trainer cards
  • Illustrations featuring a single artist capturing an entire Evolution chain

So, what’s different, you might still be wondering? Although Gen 1 is being represented here, the art on the cards will be reflective of the Paldea region where Pokémon Scarlet and Violet take place. This means fans will get a return to the creatures of Kanto but reimagined in a new way. The cards will be launching this September. Will you be picking up any packs for yourself?
