The GameCube has long been a criminally underrated system. While a handful of the system’s most memorable games have found their way to more recent systems, many of its best titles have long been unavailable to Nintendo fans. Fortunately, publisher Nicalis will bring one of the system’s most beloved titles to Switch when Ikaruga launches later this month!
Originally released in Japanese arcades in 2001, the title took some time finding a fanbase. By the time Ikaruga was ported to GameCube in 2003, however, the game had gained a cult following, and received strong critical acclaim. One of the port’s most notable features was an option to turn the image sideways, so that players could turn their TV itself sideways in order to better simulate the vertical, arcade experience. Naturally, players had to be very careful when doing so. Fortunately, the Switch can be flipped a lot easier in handheld mode, and many other arcade titles have taken advantage of the option!
Ikaruga will appear digitally on Switch May 29 with an asking price of $14.99! Let us know if you plan on picking up the title in the comments below!
