The wait is finally over: after this morning’s special Nintendo Direct Broadcast, the first official trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was shown off. That’s enough preamble—grab some popcorn and watch:
Although not a ton of plot is shown off in the clip, here are some of the standouts:
- Bowser is still imprisoned by Mario and Luigi, now in a miniaturized version of his castle
- Bowser, Jr. is here to free his dad and will be voiced by Bennie Safdie
- Ninjis make their cinematic debut in a duel that seems to be set inside of a casino of sorts—could gambling Shy Guys and the Grate Guy casino music be far behind?
- Rosalina is shown blowing up a Megaleg. She’ll be voiced by Brie Larson
Beyond that? Well, no Yoshi, despite a leak earlier this week that showed off the character’s entire bust, courtesy of Pillsbury:
So, why not just show off the beloved dino in all his green glory? It was probably too late to adjust the trailer, and who knows what role the character will play in the film. As for casting, it’s… an interesting choice to bring in Brie Larson given how utterly polarizing she has become in the wake of anti-white, antagonizing comments she has made about fans in the past. However, in recent times she’s been far less outspoken and toxic, so it’s possible she’s turned a new page in her life.
