EA Offers an Apology After an April Fools’ Joke at Nintendo’s Expense

EA calls the joke “unacceptable” and “stupid.”

April Fools’ Day on the Internet has long been a hotbed of pranks, jokes, tricks, and treats. Gaming websites play fast and loose with the news, and the World Wide Web becomes a veritable wild west where users must take what they read with a grain of salt. When done tastefully and in the right spirit, this can be worth a laugh or two. The line between tasteful and tasteless can be a fine one, however, and after a few ill conceived comments regarding Nintendo on Twitter, EA has seen fit to offer an apology to the company.

“Frostbite will power #HalfLife 3, coming out summer 2014! #WiiU exclusive.”

“Frostbite now runs on the #WiiU since it is the most powerful Gen4 platform, our renderer is now optomized for Mario and Zelda.”

Such was the uninspired content of the tweets which were posted yesterday by the official Twitter account of EA’s proprietary gaming engine Frostbite. The company’s Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore dubbed them a “poor attempt at April Fools not condoned by EA” in an apology from his personal twitter account, also calling them “stupid” and “unacceptable.” I don’t know about unacceptable, but stupid definitely sums it up succinctly.
