The slow trickle of game releases continues for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. Still, some games is better than no games, and in this case it’s a rather excellent one: Donkey Kong Land. The 1996 Game Boy classic remains a stunning reworking of SNES title Donkey Kong Country in monochromatic, 8-bit form. If you’ve never seen it in action, check out this trailer:
To be frank, Nintendo should have just launched all three of the Donkey Kong Land games at once; it’s not like fans have been spoiled for Game Boy releases of late or anything, after all. Ah well, again, it’s still nice to see such a great game finally make its way to the service. The gameplay is fairly faithful to the SNES version, but everything has been shrunk down and adapted for Game Boy’s portable and more diminutive processing power. Active Nintendo Switch Online subscribers can download Donkey Kong Land right now, so if you’d like to give it a try (or replay it if it’s been a while), update the Game Boy app on your Switch right now.
